This was a full access control build covering exterior doors and pool gates at a property in Carmel, NY. Not a simple swap-out - this required thinking through each opening individually, choosing the right lock hardware for the application, and making sure the whole system was backed up and protected against the elements.
The control side of this install runs on a Linear eMerge panel with a dedicated Altronix power supply. That combination gives you centralized management of every door and gate in the system, plus battery backup so nothing fails during a power outage. That last part matters more than people realize - a system that locks out your residents when the power goes down isn't a security system, it's a problem.
For the exterior doors, we used compact card readers mounted flush to the door frame with electric strikes fitted right into the frame hardware. Clean look, solid function. No bulky boxes on the wall, no exposed wiring. The readers sit tight against the dark frame profiles and almost disappear into the architecture.
The pool gates were a different challenge. Outdoor hardware needs to handle rain, humidity, and temperature swings year-round. We spec'd hardware that's built for that environment and used weatherproof enclosures on the access control components mounted at the gate. The panic bar hardware on the gates also keeps the install compliant with pool barrier requirements - important for any multi-family or amenity property.
The back-end rack ties everything together - network equipment, the security display, and the UPS all mounted cleanly in a single location. When something needs attention, everything is right there and easy to get to. That's the kind of setup that makes long-term maintenance simple instead of a headache.
